Tacoma (Live Performance)
As we’ve discussed, I think we should treat Rose-Lynn as though she is the artist. This is her song. It’s her show later tonight. And we’re sitting with her while she and the band rehearse. Sound check is this uniquely unguarded environment where we see the artists we love as they really are, without all of the noise and flashing lights of the concert. Her guard is down, her on-stage persona not yet fully switched on.
It’s also critical that we remain as a fly on the wall for this performance. She shouldn’t be pretending the camera isn’t there - That’s actually what makes it feel like a music video or a manufactured performance. It’s that she doesn’t care, because to her, the real performance hasn’t started yet. But it’s in these quiet little moments where the magic happens. We’re able to see Rose-Lynn as a human being, not the larger-than-life star she dreams of one day becoming.
